Sabraski Scores Regular Season Opener Win At Kasson

Prepared By Chris Stepan ~ FYE Motorsports Promotions

(May 4th 2008 – Kasson, MN) The sun shone brightly at the Kasson Speedway for the first time in 2008 and the races were hotly contested in all 6 regular divisions at the Southern Minnesota speed plant. Eighty cars were on hand for the regular season opener, which saw some greatly contested battles in all six divisions throughout the course of the evening presented by Laser 101.7fm.

The Hornet feature event was the first a-main of the night and quickly saw Mark Houston jump into the early race lead with Gary Stahl in tow. Houston never looked back as he ran away from Stahl for his first feature win of the season. Stahl chased Houston with all he could, but was forced to settle for second. 2008 Thawbuster winner Randy Rauen outran 2007 track champion Jacob Snyder for third at the line in the non-stop event.

Brandon Skalicky started on the pole of the Pure Stock feature and quickly jumped to the early race lead with Ross Sptizer in tow. Spitzer took off on the outside of the track on a lap 2 restart and began to duel with Skalicky for the race lead. Tyler Peterson, Jason Newkirk and Billy Steinberg ran in the top five throughout the entire a-main, while Spitzer was able to hold off Skalicky’s challenges for most of the event until Skalicky was able to race to the inside and steal the lead on the final corner for the thrilling win.

For the first time in 2 years, the Street Stock division at the Kasson Speedway was under the WISSOTA Promoter’s Association banner and Scott Olson was quickly the race leader after the drop of the green. Olson just drove his #20 away from Dan Holland each time around the Kasson Speedway and ran off with his first feature win in Kasson in a handful of seasons. Holland made several bids for the lead, but Olson was strong tonight on his way to the win. Holland, Dan Bork and Rick Lisowski stayed within striking distance of Olson, but Scott hung on for the win.

Rod Dregney and Dustin Nelson sat on the front row for the WISSOTA Super Stock a-main and took off into the race lead on lap one, but Dustin Nelson made a quick move to the inside on lap 2 and stole the lead momentarily until the two came together, causing an early caution and sending Nelson to the tail for the restart. On the restart, Dregney again took the lead, but quickly jumped the cushion and allowed Mike Loomis to scream by into the race lead. Once Loomis took the lead he left nothing to the imagination and dominated for the win.

Kenny Wytaske took the lead at the drop of the green in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event with Albert Wytaske and Shane Sabraski in a heated early battle for second. Sabraski stole second on lap three and set off after Wytaske, who had built up a comfortable margin. Wytaske was content on the bottom of the speedway as Sabraski ran the cushion and cut into his advantage alp after lap until he rode his #7a into the lead on lap six. After a lap seven caution, Sabraski took right back off into the race lead, while the Wytaske boys battled each of the for second. Sabraski out drove Wytaske for the remainder of the event for his first career feature win in Kasson with Kenny Wytaske, Albert Wytaske, 19th starting Dan Wheeler and Ryan Olson rounding out the top five.

Kelly Shryock took off from the inside of the second row in the USRA Modified feature into the lead and never looked back as Todd Scharkey and Bob Timm gave a solid challenge early, but Kelly was just too strong tonight in his new black Skyrocket #3. Bob Timm attempted to run down Shryock near the end, but Kelly was solid in the lead and held off Timm by a nose at the line in a fantastic finish. Timm settled for second with Scharkey, Wetzstein and Ihrke rounding out the top five at the line.

Racing resumes at the Kasson Speedway on Sunday, May 18th with a full program of USRA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, WISSOTA Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Hornets. Racing will begin at 6:00pm. Check out www.kassonspeedway.com for more information.
