HORNET RULES

This economical, entry level class is designed for the absolute beginner or the experienced racer that just wants to have some fun. There will be limited prize money & trophies for this division of racing,. These are not race cars, these are cars that we race.

1. BODY & FRAME

1.1 Any 3 or 4 cylinder compact car. Maximum wheelbase of 104" . Frame must match body.

1.2 OEM stock body and frame must remain strictly stock, no altering or channeling allowed. Ride attitude must be maintained. Tow hooks must be at front and rear.

1.3 Sunroof openings must be sealed with steel, All hatch frames and other OEM metal must be retained, including full OEM floor boards, Driver floor pan must be complete with no holes.

1.4 Dash, steering and pedals must remain stock. All glass, insulation, plastic, upholstery, chrome, & and any flammable materials including under the hood must be removed. Original Dash may be retained Steering must remain stock. No modifications.

1.5 Firewall must remain original with NO alterations

1.6 Bumpers must be chained to the frame. No bull-work or home made bumpers. Hood and trunk must be secured with hood pins only.

1.7 Driver' s door must be chained or welded shut. Passenger door must be chained only. Driver' s door plating is mandatory, minimum 3/16" steel, 8" tall, centered 16" off the ground and extending at least 4" past the door seams

1.8 Roll bar mandatory, minimum single hoop. May be welded or bolted, constructed of a minimum .095" thick, 1.666" diameter steel tube, with minimum 4" x 4" x 1/8" sandwich plates to the car and two 4" x 4" x 1/8" sandwich plates bolted to the roof minimum of (8) 3/8 grade 5 bolts shall attach to the roof and minimum of (8) of same bolts shall attach the base of the roll bars. Hoop must be full width and height of car. Roll Bar may be attached with two rear angle-down bars in lieu of roof bolts.

1.9 Absolutely NO spoilers, wings, air scoops, mirrors, or any alteration of stock appearance.

2. SUSPENSION

2.1 Suspensions must remain completely stock. Maximum 1/4" camber allowed on the right front only. No cutting, buffing, grinding, drilling, welding, reinforcing or any other modification will be permitted.

2.2 OEM shocks must be in original stock locations and positions.. Shocks must be the same length side to side. Shocks must remain stock as manufactured for make and model of car. No adjustable shocks.

2.3 Sway bars permitted front and rear but must remain stock as manufactured for make and model of car. No spring spacing or wedge setting devices. Stock rubber bushings only. Urethane sway bar bushings allowed in link end only.

2.4 NO after market suspension parts allowed, No A quick steer boxes  NO racing springs, shocks, etc. No spacers, or tie down chains.

2.5 Brakes MUST work normally on all four wheels, stock brakes and stock type pads. NO anti-lock brakes allowed. All wheels must track together straight, No intentional mis-alignment to benefit cornering.

2.6 Tires: D.O.T. tire with maximum cross-section of 195 mm and aspect ratio of 70, 75, 78 only (ie. P195/75 R14) Same size and profile on Front and on rear (may be different from front to rear). NO siping, grooving, softening, or conditioning of any kind. OEM  rim Maximum 7" width and 15" diameter.(steel recomended) Steel lug nuts are mandatory.

3. ENGINE - TRANSMISSION & REAR END

3.1 Stock engine, carburetor, exhaust manifold, and stock transmission for that make and model MUST be retained. No turbo, rotary motors or other performance enhanced vehicles allowed. Dual over-head cam engines permitted.

3.2 Engine must remain in stock location and mounts, and match make and model. Absolutely NO changes or alterations allowed. NO aftermarket parts or accessories. NO porting, polishing, machining or milling whatsoever.

3.3 Stock OEM carburetor or fuel injection for that make and model, NO alterations. Only OEM fuel pumps allowed. Stock air box, with OEM paper air filter must be used.

3.4 Transmission must be OEM for model, automatic or manual allowed, no aftermarket shift kits, forward and rear gears must be operational. No posi, limited slip or welded differentials.

4 MISC.

4.1 Battery in stock position Must be secured by minimum 1/8" x 1" steel strap with minimum 3/8" hardware with large head washers.

4.2 Must have a functional leak free exhaust system that exits rear of firewall.

4.3 Cooling system: Any stock radiator allowed which will fit in stock mounts.

4.4 Gas Tank: If stock gas tank is ahead of rear axle it may remain in place. If stock gas tank is behind rear axle it must be replaced with a fuel cell or marine tank max 7 gallons and must be secured by minimum of two (2) 1/8" x 1" steel strap with minimum 3/8" hardware and located in the truck and a shut off is recommended.

4.5 Racing seat belts (5 point harness) and Window nets required. Belts must be secured to the roll bar.

4.6 Racing seat recommended and also must be bolted to the roll bar in min. of (2) places (utilizing grade 5 or better 5/16 bolts with oversize washers) and to the floor in at least two spots utilizing a min of 2 x 2" x 1/8 sandwich plates on the bottom floor board. OEM seats must remain mounted in their original mounts and hardware

4.7 Full faced helmet is required. must meet minimum D.O.T. standard and is suggested Snell approved. Gloves, long sleeve shirt and long pants are required. A approved racing suit will be required for all enduro and special events.

AS STATED AT THE BEGINNING OF THESE RULES - THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A SERIOUS CLASS - RATHER AN ENTRY LEVEL RECREATIONAL CLASS. THE RULES AND CLASS ARE NEW TO KASSON/DODGE COUNTY SPEEDWAY AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO ADJUST THE RULES AS NEEDED TO A "KEEP IT FUN" .

In an effort to promote youth racing the Hornet class will have a A junior class@ for those 12-15, with approval or based on car count we may allow some Juniors to run with the regular Hornets based on ability. However we will remain committed to developing young new drivers at our facility. Waivers will be required to anyone entering the pits under 18 and a Parental release will be required to any driver under 18 competing.
